Do The Math
Article 1, section 2 of the U.S. Constitution declared a slave (black person) is to be counted as three-fifths of a free individual (white person). This compromise clause was clearly racist and is really stupid when you think about it. I know plenty of whites who are only two-fifhs of a person at best. A Lo Hawk

I saw your title and thought this was your submission for the assignment. And then I counted the words. Also, free Blacks were counted (both of them), as were free women and children–all this just for determining representation, not voting or property ownership. Finally, they didn’t count the Indians, either. I guess they figured slaves and Indians had enough problems without having to fill out census forms. Anyway, now we’re all free, aren’t we? Aren’t we?

Sorta free, but certainly not equal. You beat me on the 100 word assignment and motivated me to knock out the first of several ideas for this assignment. I made a unilateral ruling that contractions count as one word.

I like this assignment and may do more. Makes me edit. But it does end up sounding like haiku, and we’ve already done haiku.
